With the biggest issues being the lack of bass and lack of quality top-end, we started with the Focal Slatefiber 2-ways, with the aluminium/magnesium inverted dome tweeter creating fantastic treble and clarity. The pressed carbon woofer is lightweight but very rigid, creating a very natural sound without needing tons of power.
They do need more power than the factory head unit offers though, and we knew that we still needed to find some low-end punch. Enter the Focal ISUB Active 2.1, which is an under-seat subwoofer that also boasts a two-channel amplifier. This gives us plenty of bass as well as giving the Slatefiber woofers the power they need for an all-round upgrade.
This is designed with the average daily driver in mind, keeping things simple and reliable while still using high-quality products. We don’t address the rear speakers with this nor is this suited to cars that already have BOSE. It’s perfect for a VF Ute or SV6 that just needs a little more.
